Complete Performance Confidence
“*sigh* I’ll NEVER be able to play like that…”
Have you ever found yourself saying that? Do you ever feel like people who perform without any anxiety are just super-human? Like they have some kind of mystical ability that you could never achieve? I used to think that. I thought that I was just built to be anxious and there was simply NOTHING I could do about it. Those other people were just lucky.
Well…I was right about one thing. Those other people are lucky …BUT…
They aren’t special. There is nothing special about performing without anxiety.
Managing anxiety during a performance is a skill, not a gift. ANYONE can learn it, and anyone can lose it. During COVID many top performers had to stop performing, and consequently weren’t able to practice managing their anxiety. Now, I’m hearing many stories of players who were once confident, now feeling some level of fear or anxiety around performing.
Learning to manage your anxiety and be a confident performer is a skill anyone can learn. Some people just got lucky and stumbled into doing the right things early on without realizing it.
